Laboratory Concept LabVantage Concept
An internal or external customer requests Lab to perform work A Request can ask the lab to:
Test Samples: This type of request is very common in contract labs. The requester will send samples to the lab and ask the lab to test them. The testing is specified using a Sample Template which includes predefined Tests and Specifications.
Distribute or Dispose Stored Specimens: This is most commonly seen in biobanks where researchers may ask the repository to ship or dispose the requested samples.

Requests can optionally be grouped in a Project. Projects can have a defined start and end date, reference the Manager assigned to the project. This makes it easier to manage requests.

Lab Manager approves a request so that the work can be initiated The lab will not begin work on a request until it is approved.
Lab Analysts and Technicians perform work Once the request is approved, lab analysts can begin work on the request:
Test Samples: Analysts will prepare and test the samples and enter results. The process is similar to the process for any other kind of testing done on samples.
Process, Ship or Dispose Stored Specimens: Technicians will process, ship or dispose specimens.
Closing request A Request is considered complete when all associated work for the request is completed.

If samples are being tested, the results are released back to the requester. Manager approval for this step is optional and may be specified using Release Approvals.
