Introduction |
|
|
The LabVantage Consumables and Standards Module is used to manage the various laboratory consumables routinely used during Analysis and Data Entry. These consumables may be solutions (such as reagents, standards, controls, and buffers), or any other item consumed during Data Entry.
Consumable Lot |
|
|
A Consumable Lot is an instance object representing each new occurrence of the Consumable. New Consumables are created by the instantiation of a Consumable Type. A Consumable Lot:
• | May be purchased from an outside vendor, or the Consumable Lot may be mixed from other Consumables. |
• | May be qualified prior to use via the creation of a quality Sample. During the qualification testing of the Consumable Lot, that actual values of the Parameters of that Consumable may be quantitified. |
• | May be approved prior to use. |
• | Has a status lifecycle which includes expiration, disposal, depletion, and canceling. See the Consumable Lot State Chart below for more information. |
See Consumable Example for a worked example.
Consumable Type |
|
|
A Consumable Type is a definitional object defining the behavior, composition, and rules of a Consumable Lot. A Consumable Type defines:
• | Stages that allow you to vary the processes used when creating Consumable Lots. |
• | Recipe for how the Consumable Lot is mixed. |
• | List of acceptable vendors who provide the Consumable. |
• | Tests and Specifications about how the Consumable Lot is to be qualified. |
• | Rules for how and when the Consumable Lot will be expired and reordered. |
• | Rules for how the Consumable Lot and Consumable Container inventory will be managed. |
See Consumable Example for a worked example.
Consumable Container |
|
|
When creating a new Consumable Lot, the Consumable Lot may contain multiple Containers. Each individual container:
• | Has a status lifecycle, which indicates when the container is Valid, Depleted, and/or Expired (see the Consumable Lot State Chart below). |
• | Tracks inventory, starting with the initial inventory as defined by the Consumable Type, and is decremented on use. |
• | May be checked into and out of storage. |
• | Has identity and is specified during use of a Consumable. |
See Consumable Example for a worked example. See Consumable Container State Chart for more information.
Usage |
|
|
During the execution of the analysis data entry Consumables are used in two ways
1. | Corresponding to each Test instance, the user chooses a Consumable Lot and Consumable Container corresponding for each of the Parameter List Consumable Types that are indicated for each of the Tests on each Sample being tested. |
2. | Using the AQC module, the user chooses a Consumable Lot and Consumable Container corresponding for each Calibrator, Standard, Control, Spike that is required for the testing sequence. The AQC module calls this testing sequence as the QC Batch. |
See Consumable Example for a worked example.
Setup |
|
|
Corresponding to the use cases above, the master data is defined:
1. | In the Parameter List definition for knowing which Consumable Types are required for the testing of that Parameter List, or for the preparation of the Sample. |
2. | In the AQC QC Method definition for knowing which ConsumableType is to be the Calibrator, Standard, Control or Spike. |
See Consumable Example for a worked example.
