Sample Collections kits are typically created to assemble a group of consumable products (such as collection tubes, needles) as a single entity that can be sent for Sample collection. These kits can be tracked and managed by LabVantage. Kits are often created at a central location and shipped out to various collection sites. The sites then collect the necessary Samples and send the Kits back for processing and storage. Samples can be returned as the original complete kit, or separately.

The following functionality is used to define Sample Collection Kits in LabVantage:

Function Description
Kit Types Identify the different types of Kits you might create. Kit Types can represent entire collection kits, or the individual items included in a collection kit. In order to provide flexibility in Kit construction, LabVantage supports 4 different classes of Kits:
1. Bulk Kit Item Consumables used to generate Complete to Intermediate Kits.
2.Bulk Supplies Consumables that are used in bulk or shipped in bulk to Sites.
3.Complete KitAn assembled Kit ready for use or shipment to a Site.
4.Intermediate KitA partially assembled Kit that is not ready for use. Such Kits are used as components of a Complete Kit.

For Complete and Intermediate Kit Types, the individual Kit Items (needed to assemble the Kit) must also be defined as a Kit Type.

A Kit Type serves as a template when creating Kit Lots. Define the Kit items to include, the types of containers needed, as well as any expiration and reorder information.

Kit Lots Kit Lots are comprised of one or more Kits, created according to the Kit Type. The Kit Type selected determines the contents of the Kit. Specify how many Kits should be created in the Lot.
Kits A Kit is the actual (available) Kit that can be sent for Sample Collection.

Generating Kits

Collection Kits can be generated directly, from the Kit List and Kit Lot pages. You can also generate Kits from the Study list and Study Maintenance pages (See Biobanking Studies → Generate Kits for more information). Once Kits are generated choose to create a Package for shipment.
